Ok, so i get that we need security in our airports. And I get that we need rules, but COME ON! We ran into a situation with TSA in San Francisco that just torques me off.
Yesterday we inadvertently left a jar of almond butter and a jar of hollandaise sauce in our carry-on bag (hey, it was from Trader Joe's!). Not only is there nothing that can be done in a threatening manner with these jars (we know of a woman who got on a plane with knitting needles once!), but I have to seriously argue if these are part of the "liquids and gels" routine. I would say that they are technically solids.
Anyway, after the TSA confiscated them, they offered three choices:
1) go back through security and mail them to ourselves (too much time to accomplish and still make our flight)
2) go back through security and give the offending items to someone on the other side (no one was waiting and ditto above in the amount of time
3) just let them throw the offending items in the trash (no donation to a food bank or anything like that)
In reality, we broke the rules. Okay I'm ticked off about the rules, but at least donate the food to some organization that can eat it. Are we that afraid of almond butter? Are we that afraid?
Just something to get off my chest. If you have comments, I'm all over it...
